Most new employees quickly embrace their jobs at URS, but it can take a few weeks to become fully acclimated. For Lori Strosnider, the transition occurred in record time. Her relationship began with URS before she was even hired. Working for one of our clients, Lori came to us highly recommended, and it was a move she was delighted to make. “ I was excited to join URS because I knew it was a quality company. URS has a strong reputation among the oil and gas industry here in southeastern Louisiana,” says Lori.
Knowing the oil and gas industry from the inside out has been a clear advantage, allowing Lori to seamlessly begin her new responsibilities with a long-term assignment at a petrochemical plant as a project engineer in the capital projects department.
From day one, Lori was given considerable responsibility at URS. She has risen to the challenge, managing a project that enabled the recycling of waste oil at the plant.
The project’s end result was beneficial on several fronts: (1) waste oil no longer had to be shipped off-site as hazardous material, saving the client approximately $40,000 in hazardous waste removal costs. (2) hexane, a high value product contained in the waste oil, was recovered and recycled. The client realized a $52,000 profit from the recycled hexane. There is every expectation that similar savings and profits will occur on an annual basis.
Within one year of joining URS, Lori’s project was awarded the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality Governor’s Award. Her new process was acknowledged because it eliminated a significant amount of hazardous waste and reduced the amount of n-hexane released at the plant.
Lori is looking forward to assuming new challenges, and she is especially appreciative of URS’ caring culture, saying, “URS’ commitment to their employees was evident after Hurricane Katrina. The Company was concerned about each employee’s individual safety and also their struggle to regain some normalcy. I was very touched by the outpouring of sympathy and financial assistance offered in the days and months after the storm. URS' outreach speaks volumes about what a quality organization it is.”
