URS Sponsoring First Pacific Coast Safety Fest in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO, CA —

Registration has opened for URS Corporationís inaugural Safety Fest of the Pacific Coast, a free, informative seminar designed to enhance workplace safety, and the first such event to be held in the San Francisco Bay Area.
URS, in partnership with the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and the California Occupational Safety & Health Administration (CAL_OSHA), is hosting the event, along with public agencies, companies and professional associations. The event will be held Feb. 27-March 2, 2012, at U.S. Army Camp Parks, Dublin Blvd. and Camp Parks Blvd. Picture ID will be required for entrance to Camp Parks. Other state and federal agencies participating in the event include the U.S. Army, U.S. Coast Guard, California National Guard and U.S. Forest Service. Participating unions include the International Brotherhood of Electrical Engineers and International Union of Operating Engineers. And participating private companies and professional associations include CH2MHill, Safway, SafeCon, Pacific Gas and Electrical Company, MSA, SMUD, NuStarVPP, and AGC.
The event is open to contractors, construction workers, professional technical educators, businesses required to follow OSHA standards and anyone interested in creating a safer workplace.
The Safety Fest will feature a vendor trade show the first two days and a half-day opening session. The opening session will feature speakers from Federal and California OSHA. Conference topics will include: key electrical safety principles; a trainer course in OSHA standards for construction; 40-hour HAZWOPER training; forklift operator training; facing focus four hazards in construction; hazard recognition, accident investigation and job hazard analysis/job planning; a MSHA eight-hour annual refresher; and general crane safety awareness.
Attendees will be able to choose from more than 50 different classes during the four-day conference. Many classes will be conducted in Spanish.
An annual URS Safety Fest, held in Boise, ID, since 2005 has grown significantly in both the number of classes offered and the number of attendees. The new Pacific Coast event is expected to be just as successful.
