URS-Apptis Extends Assessment and Authorization (A&A) Accreditation for Federal Agency Cloud Computing Solutions with Amazon Web Services
Company receives ATO (Authority to Operate) from GSA on FedCloud.com through 2015

SAN FRANCISCO, CA —  May 10, 2012 —  URS Corporation announced that its technology business, Apptis, has received the Authority To Operate (ATO) from GSA by fulfilling the government security guidance and completing Assessment and Authorization (A&A) process at the FISMA moderate level.

This A&A is aimed at developing robust Cloud security governance for the federal government Cloud computing initiatives, and leverages Amazon Web Services – the highly reliable, scalable, low-cost infrastructure platform in the Cloud.

Apptis holds an acquisition Blanket Purchase Agreement from GSA (GSA IaaS BPA) to provide Cloud infrastructure services. The A&A now allows federal agencies the ability to easily procure secure Cloud services including storage and virtual machines under the blanket purchasing agreement. FedCloud.com enables federal agencies to procure on-demand, extremely reliable, highly scalable, and secure technology infrastructure services in the cost-effective Cloud computing environment via GSA Ebuy program or the GSA’s Storefront, Apps.gov. Architected and engineered with customizable interfaces, the FedCloud.com solution allows visibility into machine status, service usage, service availability and system performance.

Commenting on the award, Randall A. Wotring, President of Federal Services for URS, said: “Agencies can now fully reap the benefits of Cloud – including the ability to ramp up or scale down resources as needed while paying only for what is used. This is crucial to enable the government to better serve the American people and take ‘Data Center Consolidation Initiatives’, ‘Cloud First,’ and other policy requirements and the 25 Point Plan to Reform Federal Information Technology Management to a new level. We’re pleased to partner with Amazon Web Services to help agencies leverage Cloud computing solutions to reduce expense and accelerate delivery.”

Teresa Carlson, Vice President of Worldwide Public Sector, Amazon Web Services stated, “We’re excited that the GSA ATO granted to URS-Apptis and AWS last year was extended to 2015, enabling even more government agencies to take advantage of the AWS Cloud at the FISMA Moderate level. We look forward to our continued work with URS-Apptis as the U.S. government moves to the Cloud for their long-term IT initiatives and leverages AWS to reduce costs, scale quickly and remain agile so they can accomplish their missions quickly and efficiently.”
