URS provided project management, design, safety, construction, systemization, and operations and maintenance services to support the elimination of 111 Russian SS-19 ICBM first and second stage booster units and 132 third stage booster units. We provided construction management of a 29,000 square-foot facility necessary to cut the ICBMs’ missile bodies. The facility not only cut the missile bodies, but it also provided the safe elimination and disposal of the toxic solid rocket propellant used missiles of this size and type. This was one of several projects executed under the direction of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency Cooperative Threat Reduction Integrating Contract to reduce the threat of nuclear weapons of mass destruction.
