For the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, URS worked under the CTRIC program to provide the first Russian based chemical weapons disposal facility. This project was one of many conceived and executed to enable the Russian Federation to better meet obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention.
URS worked to construct, start-up and systemize the facility in order to neutralize the stockpile of Russian chemical agent stored at Shchuch’ye in Siberia. The Shchuch’ye facility represents a first-of-a-kind initiative in Russia as the first automated chemical weapons neutralization facility. Beyond the achievements in automation is the significant improvement of reducing potential pollution and significant improvement of safe operations over earlier plants.
