Based at the former Kelly Air Force Base, URS operates the Kelly Distribution Center (KDC) as a Third Party Logistics (3PL) provider. For over 12 years, URS has provided flexible, reliable and cost-effective supply chain management services to commercial and government clients. The ISO 9001:2008 registered operation maintains inventory accuracy of greater than 99% across its base and all satellite locations while managing over 300,000 receipts and over 350,000 material picks annually. The base KDC facility has over 640,000 square feet of space to store any conceivable variety of materials. URS owns, programs, and maintains a warehouse management system that offers maximum flexibility for all customers and is completely web enabled. URS routinely adapts its supply chain management systems to individual customer systems and needs.
URS provides its 3PL solution to leading Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to receive, store, issue and package aircraft engine unique parts and materials. Supporting OEMs working for all branches of the military and the U.S. Coast Guard requires rigorous cost accounting and controls. As a result, KDC has Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA)-approved financial reporting systems and URS developed management processes to ensure cost effective and compliant performance of contracts. The operation has been so successful that it set up satellite operations in other locations both for aircraft engine OEMs and government customers. Both OEMs and government customers are supported with off-site warehousing and kitting support to allow them flexibility and capacity on demand. Through use of KDC capacity and processes enables the government customer to avoid paying for unused capacity as is often the case with self-owned and operated warehouses. Many customers share the costs – and therefore the savings – of the flexible and efficient KDC 3PL operation.
