Known as the most dangerous corridor in the New York City region, URS designed the reconstruction of 1.6 miles of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE) and is providing ongoing construction services. The 50-year-old expressway was originally designed for cars traveling at 35 miles per hour.
Over time, as traffic volumes and vehicle speeds increased on the BQE, the existing roadway became insufficient and required a complete overhaul. By performing complete highway realignment, URS modernized an outdated transportation corridor while contributing to local urban renewal efforts without detours or the disruption of existing traffic.
