As part of a team of consultants, URS was responsible for the design and implementation of the first modern streetcar operating in the U.S. in Portland, Oregon. By developing an innovative method to coordinate the track and street design, URS met the engineering challenges of incorporating the streetcar into the urban environment. The Portland Streetcar was designed to fit the scale and traffic patterns of the neighborhoods through which it travels while contributing to the revitalization of Portland's downtown core.
