URS is providing structural and civil design services as part of two consortiums that are upgrading London Underground stations in London, England. The work is being performed at 23 stations on the Jubilee Line and 38 stations on the Northern Line.
The work includes a wide variety of assignments from platform refurbishment, provision for disabled access, structural repairs and cable management systems to new ceilings, stairways and buildings. Restricted access and health and safety issues are a major challenge of the work, as are preservation issues, since much of the underground network dates from the Victorian era.
