Working with VSE Corporation, URS supports the Department of the Treasury in the storage, maintenance, transportation, destruction, transfer and sale of seized, abandoned and forfeited general property. The receipt of these items usually results from the Treasury fighting criminal activity.
Every year, URS works with VSE to organize approximately 100 auctions throughout the country, selling items seized by agencies including the Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the U.S. Secret Service, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Proceeds from these auctions are deposited in the U.S. Treasury Asset Forfeiture Fund.
When we are not selling seized property, we maintain it in our warehouses located throughout the United States. Because of the large quantity of items as well as their regular movement between the customer collection site, warehouses and auctions, inventory management poses a significant challenge. To overcome this obstacle, the VSE and URS team developed IT solutions to track items, providing the government real-time information about the location of a specific piece of property as well as the costs for its transportation and storage.
