URS provided project development and environment studies and engineering design for the Royal Park Bridge Replacement project in Palm Beach, Florida. The project was awarded a Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers Grand Award in 2006.

The Royal Park Bridge project involved the replacement of an existing historic bridge that served as the key link between Palm Beach and mainland Florida. The project for the Florida Department of Transportation included the implementation of innovative program management, unique structural designs and an extensive public involvement process to achieve the project's objectives in record time.

Applying a unique set of multiple construction contracts and fast-tracking planning, four years were eliminated from the overall project schedule. The approach also enabled traffic to be reopened on a temporary bridge while construction of the replacement was expedited.

Using a combination of agency and special interest meetings, multimedia graphic presentations and a multi-disciplined design team, the adjoining communities became integral to the development of a context-sensitive design. From the functionality of its wide sidewalks, tree-shaded benches and waterfront promenades, to the unmistakable architectural ties to its historic predecessor, the new Royal Park Bridge stands as an example of engineering success achieved through innovation.
