Pacific Hydro’s Portland Wind Energy Project (PWEP) is one of the biggest wind farm developments in the Southern Hemisphere. When completed it will comprise 120 wind turbines across four sites, providing enough energy to power 125,000 homes and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 920,000 tonnes per year.
For the first two finished stages URS provided structural and civil engineering design and supervision, assistance with planning approvals, preliminary cost estimates, detailed geotechnical site investigations and analysis, construction documentation, and on-site supervision, technical advisory and construction management services. URS will continue to provide these services through PWEP stages three and four.
URS also developed a project environmental protection strategy for all four stages in an effort to reduce the project’s impact on the surrounding environment.
