Under contract to destroy 7.2 percent of the weapons in the U.S. chemical stockpile at the Anniston Chemical Agent Disposal Facility (ANCDF) in Alabama, URS uses state-of-the-art incineration technology to safely destroy approximately 2,254 tons of chemical weapons, including both nerve and blister agents.

Through 2009, the Anniston team has incinerated more than 65 percent of the facility’s stockpile — more than 434,000 chemical agent-filled munitions and 1,475 tons of the 2,254 tons of bulk chemical agent. ANCDF was the first chemical agent disposal facility in history to attain OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program “Star” status for excellent safety performance. Additionally, Anniston is ISO 14001–registered, the result of implementing environmentally sound management policies and processes.
