Approximately 12 percent of the United States’ original chemical weapons stockpile was stored at the Pine Bluff Chemical Agent Disposal Facility in Arkansas. The inventory includes rockets filled with GB & VX nerve agents, land mines filled with VX nerve agent and containers filled with blister agents.
URS is the civilian contractor performing chemical demilitarization operations at the Pine Bluff facility, which is owned by the U.S. government and run by the U.S. Army. To date, we have destroyed over 98 percent of the facility’s stockpile of munitions and 56 percent of its agent – over 121,000 munitions and 2,158 tons of GB and VX nerve agents.
URS has earned recognition as one of the safest companies in the state — one of just five companies to achieve over 9 million safe work hours since 1976. The Pine Bluff site has been awarded Voluntary Protection Program “Star” status by OSHA for continued safe operations. In addition, Pine Bluff’s environmental programs and management processes are ISO 14001-registered.
