Construction of the Highland Campus’ new Critical Care and Clinic building and parking structure involved a number of difficult challenges. The structure is located on a compact triangular-shaped hillside site in a densely populated area. It is also located adjacent to the main and emergency entrances of the existing hospital, which remained in operation during construction.
URS met these challenges, successfully managing work on this complex four-phase project, which included site and infrastructure relocations, seismic retrofit, intersection re-work and new construction. The new five-story, 149,000-square-foot facility includes a trauma center, surgical suites, obstetrics/gynecology, urgent care, imaging, general medical clinics, ear/nose/throat/ophthalmology, pharmacy and pediatric clinics. The project also included a 150,000-square-foot, 366-stall parking structure on the compact and sloping site.
