URS provided engineering, procurement, and construction services to refurbish various high voltage transmission lines and substations throughout Iraq, under a contract with the U.S. Government’s Iraq Project Contracting Office.
URS’ work included engineering, design, procurement, and construction management to rebuild and energize two 400kV transmission lines, each approximately 220 km long, to improve power transfer between major load centers in Iraq. URS also performed the upgrades required at the receiving-end substations to ensure they were ready to send and receive power.
Under the same contract, URS performed the engineering, procurement, and construction of five high voltage 400 kV substations, more than twenty medium voltage 33 kV distribution substations and more than 100 kilometers of 33kV distribution lines throughout the country.
URS also provided rehabilitation and expansion of the Iraq country-wide SCADA system, including regional control centers. URS provided engineering, design, procurement and installation services for the SCADA and communications facilities to link together over 200 substations throughout the country.
All projects were performed in a challenging environment requiring special precautions to provide security for work crews, materials, equipment, and repaired facilities.
